Working for climate is working for peace

5 February 2016

The historic Paris (COP21) agreement to combat climate change was celebrated by the Embassy of France in South Africa by installing a 170 panel photo voltaic solar energy system on the roof of the French Embassy in Pretoria. It  will create a cost saving of about 20% and serve as a proactive investment towards reducing their carbon footprint.

“Working for climate is working for peace,” said Ambassador Elisabeth Barbier of France to South Africa at the reception, acknowledging the agreement of 195 nations to keep a global temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius and to drive efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

Barbier explained that the current favourable exchange rate allowed for a cost effective installation of the 350sqm solar panels.

It also created an opportunity to partner with a local alternate energy solutions company, making the return on investment relatively shorter through the savings it creates.

COP 22 will be held in Morocco in November 2016
