AU joins G20 as a permanent member

The African Union was admitted into the G20, a group of 20 leading industrialised and developing nations as a full permanent member at the leaders summit in New Delhi. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the announcement at the beginning of the Summit and amidst applause and with an embrace he invited AU Chaiperson and President of the Comoros Azali Assoumani a place at the table for permanent members.

Yemeni Foreign Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak stressed that the current peace efforts, led by the United Nations, with the help of Saudi Arabia and Oman, are focusing on reopening air and sea ports and lifting the siege by the Iran-backed Houthi militias on Taiz city. In an interview to Asharq Al-Awsat, he spoke of the high-level coordination with Saudi Arabia to end the war in Yemen and restore peace.
